Legend says the Raven released the sun and moon, and discovered mankind in a clamshell. The Raven also brought the salmon and the water to man, and taught people how to fish and hunt. The Raven is one of the two main crests of the Haida.

One of the principal crests of the Haidas, Tsimshaian and Kwakuitl Tribes. Eagle down, a symbol of peace and friendship, was, and still is, sprinkled before guests in welcome dances and other ceremonial occasions. Eagle feathers were used in rituals and worn on masks and headdresses. Eagle Dancer is a lively depiction of the transformative power of ritual. It's companion piece is Raven Dancer.

The term “Chilkat weaving” applies to any garment woven by these peoples. Elaborate blankets for ceremonies were woven by hand and these intricate designs would sometimes take years to craft. Born Leader depicts a repeating Chilkat design of a human in traditonal colours of blue, yellow and black. Framed prints are available.

Powerful and human-like, Bear is often referred to as Elder Kinsman and is treated as a high-ranking guest when killed. Electric Potlatch depicts Bear in cool blue notes and was made in celebration of an event called Electric Potlatch that was held in 2007 to introduce Vancouver's East Side Native youth to a traditional potlach ceremony. The Hummingbird is a symbol of good luck in Northwest Coast Art. The Hummingbird uses his skill of hovering back and forth at great speeds to guide people. One story of the Hummingbird tells of his creation by Raven from a fragrant perennial spring flower. Raven told the Hummingbird to visit all the flowers, whispering a message of thanks to each for making the world more beautiful.

This piece is inspired by Rodin's Thinker. Only the mind here is Raven's - a mischievous and selfish creature who nonetheless inadvertently benefits all humankind. Rendered in traditional flattened Bentbox style the Sea monster series depicts different views of the Seamonster. Seamonster is the chief of undersea realm and the source from which the wealth of the Northwest coast flows. Framed prints also available.

Comprised of several Nations, the Raven warriors were a kind of mercenary force hired by rulers. This warrior sports a detailed Chilkat dancing blanket and Tlingt Spruce Root hat. The open mouth of the Warrior echos the open mouth of Raven on his hat and reinforces the idea of masculine force. Framed prints available.

Moving Forward is simultaneously a piece exploring transformation (note the wings becoming hands) and a depiction of a Ga,ahaba raven-frog crest in honor of Edzerza's deceased family member. It seems fitting that transformation and death are explored through parallel lines but this piece also reinforced the idea of hope implied in its title by the superimposition of the lighter toned graphic in the embrace of enveloping background figure.

For the Northwest coast First Nations peoples copper was a sign of wealth and was traded. Coppers were roughly ovoid flat discs of copper whose prestige and worth increased with age. The Moon was the exclusive crest of only a few of the highest ranking Chiefs; rights to this crest are still inherited. Copper Moon is a curiously shaped print which extreme rectangularity serves to emphasize the moons circularity. Framed prints also available.

Edzerza's formline series is his homage to Andy Warhol silkscreens in the best of Factory tradition.
